Alpha

Our Stories

Over recent years we have run a number of alpha courses.

Read on to find out what people enjoyed and discovered on the alpha course at Church in the Peak.

" I attended the alpha course while I was still at university.  I was coming to the end of my course and was unsure what to do with the rest of my life. Alpha gave me a chance to explore this and gave my life meaning. It is such a great environment to ask any question and hear about the meaning of life and that there is more to it than just birth and death."          Andy Smith

Debra Evans says, " I have always considered myself to be a Christian as I live in a Christian society and my family espouses the Christian way of living as a good model .Over the years a search for Jesus has brought me great satisfaction and led me to read some fantastic books, BUT... and here it is – nothing quite hit the spot! I might have been a Christian in name but I wasn’t in practice – I didn’t have an active relationship with Jesus. While attending services at Church in the Peak I became aware that it wasn’t enough to “know” Jesus from a book – I just had to know him in person!

Going on an Alpha course allowed me to explore some of the questions I had with others like me. The atmosphere was safe, secure and downright friendly… nothing fazed the team. Having a meal, a good chat and a nice glass of wine is a way to explore the Christian Faith that I’d recommend to anyone.

Since becoming a Christian, I have continued to read in the way I always have but I’ve added the Bible!  Life doesn’t suddenly become a bed of roses but it certainly gets a whole lot easier to deal with things when you have faith that God has nothing but Love for you in his heart and that you can love him back."

"I became a Christian through going to the Alpha course even though I was a practicing  witch at the time. I wasn't judged for what I was but God really spoke on a personal level and I listened for the first time in my life. All I can say is give the Alpha course a go and see what God has got for you as he will speak without people getting in the way."

Before Alpha, life was good.  I had what I had always wanted, a husband, house, car and then children.  At times though life has felt pointless, and I had become a cynical and angry person.

It was my curiosity about faith, and an invite from some friends that got me on an Alpha course.  I was sceptical and definitely knew that Christianity was not for me, but over the weekly discussions some issues I had about faith were unravelled.  I realised that my life is not pointless but purposeful with faith in God.  My life has more prospective, and on occasions I am calmer!  I now live life with a sense of hope for the future as a Christian.  Life is good.

I would recommend Alpha to everyone.  It is a really good place to discuss life’s big issues surrounding Christianity in a friendly none judgemental way.  Give it a go!
