1st November 2009 - Ian Clague - Living The New Life
Continuing our study on the book of Ephesians, Ian started looking at the application of the spiritual truths we have been considering in Eph 2.
Our verse was Eph 4v 17-24
· We considered 17 -20 first – the futility of our thinking as unbelievers. Used Rom 1 18-32 to bring clarity on extend of the futility of our thinking and its consequences
· Then v20 established we didn’t find God from this position of thinking, but only because Jesus was revealed to us.
· V22 & 24 are written in the aorist tense in Greek meaning it is describing what has happened already (used Col 3v9-10 to confirm this) we have put off the old self and put on the new self created in righteousness and holiness – this is a summary of what we have been looking at through sept and oct
· Then V 23 –is not a past event statement – rather we are exhorted to an ongoing process of renewing (or renovating) our thinking. We explored the fact we can only do this through the work of the Spirit by Grace and by bringing out thinking into line with the plumb line of the Word.
