Dave and Gill Harper started the church 1987 in their home in response to a prophetic vision and call. The foundation prophetic verse has always been Isaiah 41:18: "I will make rivers flow on barren heights and springs within the valleys". Our expectation is for an outpouring of God's Spirit on dry and thirsty hills and valleys. We also believe that the river will flow out and affect towns and cities around the Peak.
God also gave a prophetic picture of fires burning in many places over the Peak District. This has shaped our vision for community groups (cells) in each community and for churches being planted wherever we have clusters of cells.
In November 1996 God spoke prophetically to us that "our strength to increase would come from without" and since this time we have seen a steady increase in the number of people coming to join us and enquiring about the church.
In 1997 Tim and Becky Davies felt God's call to church plant in Buxton and moved from Crewe to join us. By 1998 the first of the church plants started with the cell groups in Buxton gathering together for their own Sunday meetings.
The Church moved to County Hall in Matlock in April 2006 having outgrown the facilities at the Whitworth Centre in Darley Dale.

The church has been part of the newfrontiers family since 1991 and now has community groups meeting in six different areas in the Peak District and we are seeing these groups multiply into new areas. Click on the Community Groups link for more details.
